Moreno: Strategy is key for race
Roberto Moreno believes that pit strategy will be the key to tomorrow's (Monday) London Champ Car Trophy at Brands Hatch
The Brazilian veteran qualified 10th on the grid for the race, but said that he was concentrating on developing his car to be strong in the 165-lap event, rather than trying to find pace for qualifying.
New refuelling regulations for the Brands race require each driver to stop twice under green flag conditions. "With this new strategy for this race it helps to be able to save a bit of fuel," said Moreno. "If you can't pass people here, you have to change your strategy in the pits. It's going to be very important to time your pit-stops differently to other people because the pits are so small. Things like that will come into play in the race."
The Brazilian was happy with his performance in qualifying, but said that he and the team had been focussed on the race. "I'm running a brand-new car this weekend. The team did a great job to put it all together and the car is improving every time we run it. My engineer is doing a great job and we're coming up slowly. More than anything, I have a great race car. It's very consistent through the runs which will really help tomorrow."
