Monras on top in second F2 practice

Miki Monras made the most of an increasingly dry Spa-Francorchamps to set the pace in Formula 2's final free practice session

The Spaniard remained within the top five for much of the session, before moving to the front in the final ten minutes with a 2m09.124s - at the time more than half a second clear of the field.

Mihai Marinescu cut that advantage to 0.498 seconds as the chequered flag fell, the Romanian moving into second to equal his best practice result so far this season.

That demoted the impressive Jordan King - making his F2 debut this weekend, and in the process becoming the youngest driver to compete in the series - into third.

Behind the lead trio, this morning's pacesetter Ramon Pineiro was the only other driver to finish within one second of Monras' time, as the mixed conditions rewarded those who pushed late on in the session.

Alex Brundle finished fifth fastest, 1.155s down the road, ahead of championship leaders Christopher Zanella and Mirko Bortolotti in sixth and seventh respectively.

Tobias Hegewald, who took a clean sweep when F2 last visited Spa in 2009, finished eighth fastest, ahead of the British duo of Jack Clarke and Will Bratt.
