In cool conditions, the Romanian set the pole time with four minutes remaining, his 1m46.734s standing as the fastest F2 lap of the weekend so far. There were no more improvements among the top runners after that, so Alex Fontana's 1m47.141s was good enough for second, even though it was over 0.4s slower.

Saturday's winner Luciano Bacheta was only third fastest, just 0.005s off the front row, while fellow Briton Daniel McKenzie was fourth fastest, a further 0.008s adrift.

Race one polesitter Matheo Tuscher was fifth fastest, just 0.014s off McKenzie. Kevin Mirocha was sixth ahead of Dino Zamparelli and opening race runner-up Christopher Zanella.
