Mercedes-Ilmor extends Renishaw partnership

Following a successful trial partnership, a three-year extension has been agreed between Mercedes-Ilmor, the UK race engine specialist, and Renishaw, the British measurement technology supplier. The Wotton-under-Edge company will continue as the sole supplier of probing systems and machine tool performance testing products, with an increased focus on the field-testing of its innovative metrology products at Mercedes-Ilmor's main manufacturing site in Brixworth

Despite its change of ownership in December 2002, when Mercedes-Benz acquired a majority shareholding in Ilmor Engineering and initiated a rationalisation of its technical partnership programme, the newly named Mercedes-Ilmor company has decided to maintain the collaboration with Renishaw because of its positive contribution to its manufacturing operations. Ilmor-Mercedes designs, manufactures and maintains the Mercedes-Benz V10 engines equipping the West McLaren Mercedes F1 team, among other programmes.

Ilmor-Mercedes plant manager Adam Labudek noted: "To be successful in F1 racing demands that our manufacturing processes are world-class. Working with Renishaw enables us to get the best from our machining operations. Its products allow us to achieve the shortest possible lead times, while ensuring the highest levels of component quality."

Mercedes-Ilmor MD Hans-Ulrik Maik added: "Renishaw has proved itself to be a world-class company that understands what it takes to achieve success at the most demanding levels of manufacturing. Partnership is a two-way process and we believe that Renishaw has also benefited from working closely with us in an industry where to remain at the top demands constant technological improvements."
