McLaren F1 reserve Stoffel Vandoorne set for Super Formula testing
McLaren Formula 1 reserve Stoffel Vandoorne will complete four days of Super Formula testing ahead of his debut in the series with the Honda-powered Dandelion team next month
The reigning GP2 champion will have an intense schedule this year as he is combining the single-seater campaign in Japan with his McLaren duties.
Vandoorne flies to Japan this week, having been with McLaren in Barcelona for both pre-season F1 tests, to meet up with his new team before testing.
He did a day's testing with the squad at Suzuka last year, finishing eighth fastest out of 23 cars.
"I have two days of testing on Saturday and Sunday and that's followed by official testing on Monday and Tuesday," the Belgian said.
"I'll head to the factory and do some preparation before the first test. I still don't know what to expect.
"It'll be the first time I have a proper run with the car. I'll have a clear view after those days of testing.
"I'm with one of the best Honda teams and I'm confident in my own abilities in a single-seater but we'll have to wait and see."
Vandoorne met the target set by McLaren of dominating the GP2 championship last season but when asked for his aim this year, he said: "I don't have a specific target.
"The goal is to be in F1 in 2017 and I want to be as prepared for possible.
"I feel ready for it. It will be a different experience and I will try and build a relationship with Honda."
The 2016 Super Formula season begins on 24 April at Suzuka.
