McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC: Jamie Green
Jamie Green has won the prestigious McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC driver of the year award
The British Formula Renault runner-up impressed with two victories in what was only his first season in circuit racing after stepping up from karting.
Green's form also earned him a Formula 3 debut driving for Carlin Motorsport in last week's Korean Super Prix, finishing creditably inside the top 10, a result which he looks set to build on in 2003.
As part of his prize, Green wins a test in a McLaren F1 car, membership of the BRDC, as well as an unprecedented £75,000 to go towards racing in 2003.
"It's a massive relief because I felt as though I had done well," said Green, who was presented with his award by Martin Brundle, McLaren's Martin Whitmarsh and Haymarket's Peter Foubister. "It hasn't sunk in yet. This year's my first year in motor racing and Formula Renault was a tough championship.
"To have come out in my first season at the front of the championship proves that I have got what it takes. Winning this award agains the competition shows I can do it.
"It's looking like F3 next year for me, and I'd like to thank everyone who has helped my career. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going next year."
