Matheo Tuscher dodges the rain to take Algarve Formula 2 pole

Matheo Tuscher took his second Formula 2 pole position of the season in a rain-affected qualifying session at Algarve

The session started in damp conditions, but there was a real sense of urgency to get out on circuit as quickly as possible, with an already burst cloud clearly on its way from the mountains. In actual fact, there was only time for two timed laps before the rain and hail descended.

And it was in those two laps that Tuscher found grip where others did not, to seal another impressive display from the 15-year-old. Christopher Zanella was second quickest, while Saturday's race-winner Luciano Bacheta in third.

Markus Pommer was one of only two men to improve their times after the rain had stopped, sealing fourth position ahead of Dino Zamparelli.

The surprise of the session was sixth for Victor Guerin, on his debut weekend in the series, ahead of the other late improver Mihai Marinescu. Britons Hector Hurst and Daniel McKenzie completed the top 10.
