Manning: conditions should suit Reynard
Britain's Darren Manning goes to Cleveland with an extra little gleam in his eyes, as the Burke Lakefront Airport is readied for Champ Cars' second night-race this Saturday. The Yorkshireman had his best result so far in the first-ever night-race, at Milwaukee, and hopes he can improve upon fourth place in Ohio
"I had my best race of the season in Milwaukee under the lights, so hopefully racing at night is a good omen for us," he said. "The Reynard seems to like the cooler conditions."
Manning also has reason to be confident in his chassis when he checks the event's record book. "Last year's winner won in a Reynard," said Manning, "which is nice.
"The thing is we keep making improvements each weekend and I'm sure Cleveland won't be any different. To be honest I'm really happy with the way things are progressing with the RAC Walker Racing team this season."
Manning is currently 10th in the drivers'championship, sandwiched between the more experienced Alex Tagliani and Mario Haberfeld. As a measure of how well he is doing in his rookie year, former champion Jimmy Vasser is the next man behind Haberfeld, four points off Manning.
