Leimer wins IFM race one at Brno

Fabio Leimer scored his third victory of the season in the first International Formula Master at Brno today

The Swiss reclaimed the lead of the championship with his third win out of three standard-grid races so far this season. Leimer only started third, but jumped Josef Kral off the line and then passed his Jenzer Motorsport team-mate and polesitter Pal Varhaug on the fourth lap.

Once up front, Leimer stormed away from the battle over second place between Varhaug and Kral to win by more than 10 seconds.

"I had a bad qualifying session this morning, for me anyway as I took third when I normally qualify on pole, so it was important to have a really good start," said Leimer.

"I passed Josef and then I knew I only had two or three laps where I could overtake Pal - the circuit is made up of long corners mainly, so it's really hard to pass once the race gets underway. I was pushing through the race and was consistent with my times so I'm pretty happy. I've won three races in three race weekends."

Varhaug kept Kral at arm's length throughout the 45-minute race to maintain second place and stay in touch with Leimer, while Sergei Afanasiev held off Erik Janis for fourth. Vladimir Arabadzhiev completed the top six after a lonely race.
