Leach to sue over Ford 'conspiracy'
The former president and COO of Ford of Europe, Martin Leach, is to sue the Ford Motor Company, claiming that it damaged his career. Leach left his Ford post earlier this year [Aug 13], but says that the manner in which he departed ruined his plans of taking up a similar role with Italian manufacturer FIAT. According to German website Spiegel Online, he is seeking ?60m compensation
Leach claims that he was ostracised from important meetings, so that senior colleagues started to doubt his authority. He says he told David Thursfeld, the chairman and CEO, that he was prepared to leave the company should Ford be prepared to do without the competitor clause that would make it impossible for Leach to move to another car manufacturer.
A day later, claims Leach, Thursfeld leaked the news about Leach's imminent departure to the Financial Times. At the same time, Ford denied his request to do without the competitor clause and informed him that they would sue him should he ignore this clause.
