Junqueira to swap teams
Bruno Junqueira looks set to move from Chip Ganassi Racing to Newman-Haas Racing for the 2003 season
The Brazilian former F3000 champion, who won the latest Champ Car round at Denver is believed to be in advanced talks over the deal, which would see him replace his fellow countrman Christian Fittipaldi. Fittipaldi is moving into NASCAR racing.
Junqueira is thought to want to stay in CART, and his current team's imminent move to the all-Oval race Indy Racing League appears to have been the catalyst for current negotiations.
Junqueira's manager David Sears commented: "We're still in negotiations with Ganassi, but Newman-Haas looks a likely option."
Briton Dario Franchitti is also known to be on the Newman-Haas shopping list, but if Junqueira joins the team, the Scot could be left out in the cold. He has a lucrative offer from Honda to move to IRL, but wants to remain in Champ Cars. Forsythe Racing and Team Rahal are the only other major CART operations that may still be able to accomodate Franchitti in their plans.
