Jordan gets more 'I-deas'

The new, 10,000sq.m Jordan Grand Prix R&D facility at Silverstone, UK, is being equipped with additional product lifecycle management software by EDS PLM Solutions. The F1 constructor has used the company's 'I-deas' integrated mechanical design, engineering and manufacturing applications for several years. The software is used to produce a virtual prototype of the complete racecar before construction begins, and to evaluate subsequent evolutions

The virtual prototype reduces the need for physical prototypes and provides greater opportunities to try out innovative designs and implement last-minute changes. Jordan ordered the additional software to extend its use of concurrent engineering practices, in order to continue to reduce the overall development time for its evolving F1 designs.

EDS collaborative product development software is used also employed in F1 by BAR, Jaguar Racing and WilliamsF1. "Our involvement with F1 and other racing teams enables EDS to showcase its industry-leading PLM software in action," said Jim Duncan, the president of the Europe, Middle East and Africa division. "The teams we work with are finding that our technology is a key component in their effort to enhance their cars' performance, and shave a few more seconds off their time to the finish line."
