Jack Clarke scored his maiden Formula 2 win at Brands Hatch in race one

Jack Clarke has taken his first Formula 2 win in this weekend's opening race at Brands Hatch

Starting from third on the grid, Clarke made a superb start to dive between the front row pair of Tobias Hegewald and Ramon Pineiro on the run to the first corner to take the lead. Pineiro slotted in behind him, and the pair swiftly built a gap over the rest of the field.

The margin between the two constantly bounced between 1.1s and 1.7s before they began to encounter lapped traffic towards the end of the race.

Pineiro was slightly delayed in finding a way past backmarker Plamen Kralev, and that allowed Clarke to pull away and win by 3.137s.

Hegewald couldn't stay with the leaders, and instead fell into a three-way scrap for third with Miki Monras and Mirko Bortolotti. Again, the gaps opened and closed, but the trio remained in the same positions throughout the race.

The only real drama came on the opening lap when Jordan King, Kelvin Snoeks, Mihai Marinescu and Benjamin Lariche were eliminated in a crash at Graham Hill Bend, prompting a short spell behind the safety car.
