IRL books more sled time at Delphi

The Indy Racing League has stepped up its use of the Delphi sled testing facility in Vandalia, OH. IRL medical director Dr Henry Bock commented: "It's an unfortunate reality that, for so long, we had to rely on data only as it came from accidents during races and practice. With this type of testing, we can be much more proactive in developing and implementing safety improvements." The hydraulic sled has a nominal thrust equivalent to that of two Boeing 747 airplanes

Delphi claims to be the first company to provide a comprehensive sled testing service to motorsport sanctioning bodies and equipment manufacturers. Its Ohio test facility became the first to build a hydraulic sled in North America in 1999, and has since been used mainly to support automotive safety R&D in the advancement of airbags, seatbelts and safety systems to meet the needs of automobile manufacturers.
