Hyundai could quit WRC before San Remo
Hyundai may not be represented in the next World Rally Championship round in San Remo due to a dispute between the South Korean manufacturer and UK engineering company Motor Sport Developments, which operates its Accent WRC cars [Sep 18]. "MSD has failed to provide us with audited financial records which we are legally entitled to review," B.H. Lee, Hyundai's director of overseas marketing and promotion, told AUTOSPORT
"Until we can get a true picture of the state of its finances, we have no choice but to withhold payment," he added.
MSD principal Dave Whitehead commented: "It is our wish to carry on with the championship. We have technicians preparing the cars in our usual thorough fashion and we want to resolve this quickly."
Hyundai announced last week that it would take a sabbatical from the WRC at the end of this season. The company plans to establish a new World Rally Team HQ at its technical centre at Russelsheim, Germany, and to return to rallying in 2006.
