Grapevine: Rankings: Keselowski moves up

An ultra-busy weekend of motorsport brought some unexpected race winners and, consequently, some large leaps in the Castrol EDGE Rankings

Tin-top action was rife around the world, and in the USA it was Brad Keselowski who took a rare NASCAR Sprint Cup win in his Penske Racing Dodge at Kansas Speedway, moving himself up 13 places in the Rankings to 66th.

In Europe, the reconditioned Red Bull Ring in Austria featured a DTM win for Martin Tomczyk in his older-spec Audi. The German, who was dropped from Audi's 'A' team at the end of last season, moves up 21 places in the Rankings as a result to earn himself a position of 89th.

The World Touring Car Championship had been all about Chevrolet stars Rob Huff and Yvan Muller, with team-mate and elder statesman Alain Menu scarcely getting a look-in apart from an early-season reversed-grid win. But the Franco-Swiss was on form at the Hungaroring to take his second success of the season and promote himself 13 places in the Rankings to 94th.

Even further east within Europe, the WTCC's sister championship, the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, enjoyed its first visit to the Ukraine. Skoda star Juho Hanninen scored a fine win on the Yalta Rally, which means that he leaps back up six places in the Castrol EDGE Rankings to 41st.

The supercars of the GT1 World Championship fought it out for the Tourist Trophy at Silverstone, with Nissan's German duo of Lucas Luhr and Michael Krumm triumphing - their reward is a massive rise to 210th and 222nd respectively in the Rankings.

Staying with sportscars, across the Atlantic the Grand-Am brigade had two races affecting Castrol EDGE Rankings scores this week. The Lime Rock Memorial Day Monday race and Saturday's Watkins Glen Six Hours both featured wins for the Dallara of Max Angelelli and Ricky Taylor, who move up to 105th.
