Grapevine: Johnson drops in Rankings
Jimmie Johnson may have retained his place at the top of the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings, but he fell further down the Castrol Rankings after finishing seventh at Talladega on Sunday
The four-time Cup champion has been on the slide in recent weeks and this week surrendered seventh place to Jenson Button.
NASCAR's other movers this week include Talladega winner Clint Bowyer (27) and pole winner Juan Pablo Montoya (32), who climbed four and six places respectively. Jamie McMurray (28) and Jeff Burton (29) both lost places as a result of their accidents, while Greg Biffle (36) also dropped four spots.
Gabriele Tarquini (79)'s hopes of retaining his WTCC crown ended when he crashed out of the lead at Okayama on Sunday, and he also lost the lead of the WTCC drivers in the Castrol Rankings. Championship leader Yvan Muller (75)'s two third places were enough to lift him above Tarquini. Rob Huff (80) was a winner in Japan as moved ahead of Andy Priaulx (83) into third spot among WTCC drivers.
Paul di Resta (46) dropped three places after his incident-packed DTM weekend at Adria, but remains the highest-ranked DTM driver. His Mercedes team-mate Bruno Spengler (48) is now just two places after he climbed six thanks to his podium.
Tom Kristensen (335) was overtaken by WTCC racer Michel Nykjaer (251) as the top-ranked Danish driver. Tony Stewart broke into the top 25, while Kamui Kobayashi dropped out of the top 50.
