GPWC negotiator talks of F1 'convergence'
The chief negotiator of the GPWC company, Ford VP Richard Parry-Jones, told the Financial Times that FIA president Max Mosley's expectations of a deal within weeks over the F1 commercial revenues were "a tad optimistic." He added: "It would be nice if it could happen. We're on a converging paths, not diverging paths. The debate is how long that convergence is going to take
"I'm optimistic that we can reach a sensible conclusion to all of this," said Parry-Jones. "Ideally we want to improve the financial stability of the sport. It's important for the sponsors, so they know what the longterm future is beyond 2007, and obviously we would like more transparency in the way the sport is run. Objectively, we would like to achieve this with a smooth transition rather than a discontinuity.
"If to achieve our goals we have to have a discontinuity, we will have one. But it's not my mindset that we are going to have a discontinuity anyway. If we can come to an arrangement that meets all the goals in the meantime, we will probably by quite happy with that. But if we can't, we will go ahead and start our own series."
