Germany fastest on final day

German Formula Three racer Nico Hulkenberg surprised the regular A1 GP fraternity by recording the fastest time on the second and final day of official testing at Silverstone

Hulkenberg recorded a lap of 1:10.615 around the circuit's 2.294-mile International layout, meaning the German squad were the fastest of 20 nations practising today in the build-up to the opening round of the new season at Zandvoort on October 1.

However, his time wasn't good enough to beat Fairuz Fauzy's best effort from yesterday, who as a result recorded the quickest time of the pre-season test for Team Malaysia.

Former IRL and Champ Car racer Darren Manning set the fastest time overall in the afternoon's session to record the second best time of the day for Great Britain, three tenths of a second slower than Hulkenberg's best.

New Zealand were third quickest with regular racer Jonny Reid behind the wheel.

Jos Verstappen will be buoyed by the Dutch team's strength heading into the season opener at Zandvoort in October after he recorded the fourth quickest time of the day.
