Forsythe duo fade in qualifying

Player's/Forsythe pairing Alex Tagliani and Patrick Carpentier both ran in the top five in the Friday morning Champ Car practice session at Rockingham Motor Speedway, but they couldn't reproduce that form when it counted.

The French-Canadian duo qualified at the bottom of the top 10, though Carpentier was the only one who had an explanation for it.

"My warm-up laps were slow and I knew we had some sort of problem," Carpentier reported after qualifying 10th. "On my first lap, we had an electrical problem and the engine overheated. The temperature went to 150 degrees, and that's too much. Then on the second lap the pop-off valve opened between 1 and 2 and we lost all the revs. It's a shame, because the setup was good, but we didn't get a chance to post a good time."

Tagliani was frustrated after not coming within 0.3s of the 25.811-second lap he ran in practice. His first lap was a 25.183s, good for 10th best, and he moved up to ninth with a 25.158s the second time around.

"The car was stuck and I was flat all the way around," said 'Tag'. "It felt like we were slow on the track and we were. We'll have to look at the data to see what happened because we were completely trimmed out and we didn't have enough speed. We should have been 5mph faster because it's in the car."
