Formula SAE Australasia deadline looms

The registration deadline for the last of the 2002 series of SAE annual collegiate motorsport competitions, Formula SAE Australasia is August 31. The event will take place over December 5-8 at the South Eastern Training Facility at Carrum Downs, in Melbourne, VIC. The event, which was inaugurated in 2000, will again be supported by Ford, Holden, Mitsubishi and Toyota

Two additional trade sponsors, announced last month, Aurora Bearing and Suspension Components Australia bring the number of supporting companies to 18. The state of Victoria is also sponsoring the event.

The organisers are hoping for more than 20 entries from Australian and overseas universities, including Leeds University in the UK, whose student team finished third last year behind America's winning Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Wollongong. Fourth in 2001 was the University of New South Wales, ahead of another British entry from the University of Hertfordshire, and the University of Tasmania.

SAE's similar 2002 competitions, Formula SAE in the USA in May and Formula Student in the UK in June, were won respectively by Cornell University and Georgia Institute.
