Ford to badge Cosworth's CART V8
US manufacturer Ford is to give full backing to the CART Champ Car series in 2003. The automotive giant has decided to badge the fixed-specification turbocharged engines being built in Northampton by its British subsidiary Cosworth Racing, which will become mandatory equipment in next season's CART series. The deal coincides with Ford's centenary and is for two years. The series will be known as: 'Bridgestone presents the Champ Car World Series powered by Ford'
The engines will be branded 'Ford-Cosworth'. Ford Racing Technology director Dan Davis commented: "We're very happy to have this agreement with CART finalized. Ford has been a staunch supporter of the CART series since our debut in 1992. Not only does this relationship allow us to support our technical partner, Cosworth Racing, but the series and its high-profile markets will make an excellent platform for Ford to showcase the many new products that will debut over the next couple of years."
The deal also sees Ford cars become CART's official pace vehicles, Ford trucks become the official truck of the Simple Green Safety Team, and Ford Racing Technology will continue in its role as the 'Official Safety Technology Provider' of the series.
