Fisher's SWR FRenault bid
The 19-year-old finished second in the BARC Formula Renault series last year, before challenging for the Formula BMW crown with Motaworld, and believes that despite the team's inexperience in the category, he will still be able to run at the front
Fisher said: "We probably would have run with SWR in Formula BMW this year, but we had already made a commitment to run with Motaworld before [team boss] Trevor Powell had sorted out his team.
"Trevor has made my seats since I started karting when I was eight, so I've known him for a long time. It's a logical step. I know the mechanics and I've seen the A1 preparation that goes into their BMWs. If they can do that with the Renaults as well I'm confident next year can be very good."
Fisher has opted to move to the category because he has insufficient funds to make the switch to Formula 3, while another season in BMW was seen to be counter-productive.
Fisher said: "I did think about it, but Renault is a step up. I haven't got the budget for F3, and if you can't do that Renault is the place to go.
"Being a new team and new driver to FRenault I won't be expected to go out straight away and win the championship. But if we do well it will look better than if I went with a team like Fortec Motorsport. The recent championships have demonstrated that it is really a two-year campaign, so I can learn the formula with the team."
The team is awaiting delivery of two new Tatuus chassis before testing can begin ahead of next season. A second driver is yet to be secured, although the team is eager to finalise the line-up for both its Renault and BMW seasons to allow for maximum testing.
