FIA releases revised plans for 2005
The FIA has presented members of the F1 Technical Working Group (TWG) with three packages of technical measures for consideration after teams failed to come up with their own satisfactory proposals to slow cars down by the September 6 deadline. The proposed regulations were given to the TWG in July and were sent once again on Monday with some revisions and additions following the deadline. The proposals include changes to the chassis and aerodynamics and the controversial switch to 2.4-litre V8 engines for the 2006 season
The TWG will now consider the three packages, the FIA added that it would be willing to consider a combination of various elements from the different packages, if all the teams agree.
The FIA also asked for the immediate consideration and approval of two safety-related measures following the spate of punctures at the Belgian Grand Prix last weekend. The first is the elimination of the use of materials that leave sharp shards of debris on the track following an accident. The second is reduction in car weight to eliminate the use of ballast and thereby reducing the amount of energy to be dissipated in a crash.
