FIA awards Brazil victory to Jordan
The FIA has awarded Jordan Grand Prix and driver Giancarlo Fisichella the victory in last Sunday's shortened Brazilian GP. The race stewards reconvened in the governing body's HQ in Paris, France, today to be told that information supplied by the official timekeepers, leading to McLaren International and Kimi Raikkonen being awarded the win, had been incorrect. The revised result brings Jordan a landmark victory in its 200th Grand Prix, and Ford Cosworth its 176th win
The FIA declares the result of any foreshortened race on the basis of a two-lap countback from the moment the red flag is displayed on the start-finish line. Last Sunday's race at Interlagos was red-flagged due to accidents involving Mark Webber's Jaguar and Fernando Alonso's Renault.
The FIA studied evidence showing that Fisichella, leading the race, had just started his 56th lap when the red flag was displayed. This contradicted the information that had originally been supplied by TAG-Heuer, to the effect that the Jordan was yet to complete its 55th lap.
The result was therefore declared at the completion of lap 54, during which Fisichella had taken the lead from Raikkonen
