Ferrari Challenge: Bosch drill
John Bosch clinched the Ferrari Challenge title at the last round of the European Championship in Misano, profiting from an inexplicable piece of driving by Ange Barde who removed title hopeful Javier Diaz from contention in race one
The Frenchman, already three laps down from an earlier incident, careered into Diaz on lap five, sending him spinning from third down to 13th place and effectively extinguishing his championship hopes. Although Diaz recovered well to finish fifth, he had the pace to have challenged the eventual winner, local expert Pier Giuseppe Perazzini.
Perazzini, undoubtedly the most cavalier driver in the series, made it two wins out of two in the second race - an impressive achievement given that he had yet to win in a 360 before this weekend. Diaz, driving with a broken hand sustained in a crash at the Nurburgring, finished second, while Bosch's third was enough to land him the title in typically unspectacular fashion.
Competing alongside the Europeans as part of the four-day World Finals event were the American and Pacific Challenge drivers - Japanese ace Yasutaka Hinoi beat Perazzini on the road in both the sprint and feature race, leaving the Italian to collect the European honours.
Irishmen Michael Cullen and Paddy Shovlin, fresh from their one-two in the 360 Challenge support race at the United States GP, suffered set-up troubles for much of the weekend, Cullen was off the pace but still managing to secure third in the championship. In class two, Britain's John Greasley missed out on the title by a single point to Martin Lanting - giving Dutch drivers both championships.
Italian Challenge driver Luigi Moccia won the International Final. Perazzini was heading for third, but crashed out at the last corner.
