'F1 in Schools' contest takes off

Britain's imaginative F1 in Schools Challenge [Aug 22] has now attracted entries from no fewer than 1300 students representing more than 250 teams from schools all over the UK. The contest was exhibited over four days at the 'Imagineering' 2002 Fair at the National Agricultural Centre at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, which ended yesterday. The inaugural 2001 competition, established by Jaguar Cars, BAE Systems and CNC machine maker Denford, was contested by 150 schools

F1 in Schools is open to all UK secondary schools and colleges, whose student teams design and manufacture CO2 powered model racing cars. They must use CAD software to create a 3D model and supporting documentation, including detailed drawings, orthographic projections and rendered images.

Following regional finals in November and December, the two regional winners will go forward to the F1 in Schools Grand Final, which will take place on January 8, 2003, during the British Education & Technology Training (BETT) exhibition at Olympia in London. The winning team will receive a trophy, tickets to the 2003 British GP and VIP visits to Jaguar Racing in Milton Keynes, Jaguar Cars and BAE Systems.
