Dominguez in line for Mexico seat

Champ Car race winner Mario Dominguez is in line to race for A1 Team Mexico this season in A1 Grand Prix, autosport.com can reveal

The 30-year-old has flown from Monday's delayed Champ Car race in Montreal to Silverstone in time for the first day of the official two-day test at the circuit, in order to evaluate the 550bhp A1 car with a possible view to racing in some events this season.

"I'm not committed to anything yet, I'm just here for the test just wanted to give it a try," Dominguez told autosport.com.

Double A1 race winner Salvador Duran will also test the Mexican car at the British circuit in the test, and is also expected to race for the team this season.

However, Dominguez had to sit out the opening minutes of the session this morning, while the team fixed engine gremlins on the car.

Dominguez is one of several late additions to the driving line-up at the test, the only chance A1 teams get to run together before the season opener at Zandvoort on October 1.

Reigning Indy Pro Series champion Wade Cunningham is testing for New Zealand, while Switzerland are testing former DTM driver Marcel Fassler.

South Africa has a packed testing programme, with Honda F1 tester Alan Van der Merwe and Formula Renault Eurocup racer Adrian Zaugg joining last season's drivers Stephen Simpson, Tomas Scheckter and Gavin Cronje.

A1 Team Indonesia regular Ananda Mikola is testing alongside his brother Moreno Soeprato.
