Dominguez enjoys most satisfying race
Mario Dominguez has said that his third place in today's London Champ Car Trophy at Brands Hatch was a more satisfying result for him than his shock win in last year's race at Sufers Paradise in Australia
The Herdez driver scored a fluke victory in the Surfers race after heavy rain caused the majority of the race to be run under the safety car. Today, however, Dominguez used good fuel economy and clever strategy to work his way to third after starting seventh on the grid.
"The team has worked very hard for this and I am very pleased with how things went today," said Dominguez. "This is probably more satisfying for me than the win in Australia because myself and the team had to earn it by running hard all day."
Dominguez said that he had particularly enjoyed racing on the historic Brands Hatch circuit, "a track with so much history and where so many legends have been made." Earlier in the weekend the Mexican had admitted that he had been struggling to learn the 1.2-mile Indy circuit, but he had found a novel solution.
"There are very specific lines that you have to take around here," he said. "On Saturday I figured I'd follow Darren Manning around for a bit, because he knows where to go because he's raced here a lot. He's got lots of little tricks. The guy's who've been here before, they know their way around. Even though it's a small track, it has a very particular driving style."
