Dixon in Line for US Races

New Zealand seat holder Colin Giltrap has spoken with the Chip Ganassi driver about racing in the series when the inaugural World Cup of Motorsport visits Laguna Seca and San Antonio, Texas early in 2006.

The team tested former Euro 3000 racer Jonny Reid and former Infiniti Pro Series driver Matt Halliday at the series' inaugural test at Silverstone today. The pair are also in the frame for the regular drives with the team, but Dixon would be a popular choice for the series US races.

Because the inaugural A1 GP championship will only rank individual countries rather than drivers, Dixon's knowledge of Laguna Seca and popularity in America could be useful in the team's championship effort.

The series will hold the new street race at San Antonio on February 26 next year, before moving on to Laguna Seca two weeks later.

"I think Scott's very keen provided Chip Ganassi will give him permission," said Giltrap.

"I think most teams will have three or four drivers over the series and we will finalise our driver line-up after the test at Paul Ricard later this month."

Dixon is the latest IRL regular to be understood to be interested in the 'World Cup of Motorsport'. Tony Kanaan is in talks with Brazilian boss Emerson Fittipaldi to lead their effort, and Tomas Scheckter will test with Team South Africa at Silverstone tomorrow.

"I know he has been talking with Tony Kanaan about the series and whether Tony is going to drive for Brazil," Giltrap added.
