Davidson tops Silverstone warm-up

Anthony Davidson ensured that Peugeot go in to the AUTOSPORT 1000km confident of its pace having gone fastest in the morning warm up at Silverstone

The Briton lapped in 1m45.545s in what proved a precursor for the front-runners in terms of traffic, with hardly anyone enjoyed a clear lap throughout the 20 minutes.

Allan McNish moved to second position in the dying moments of the session, 0.2s off the pace of Davidson while the Drayson Lola was an exceptional third fastest.

Stephane Sarrazin's Oreca Peugeot and Leo Mansell's Ginetta were next ahead of the #007 Aston Martin and the #8 Audi.

Nick Leventis set the pace for Strakka Racing in the Acura in LMP2, while the RML's 'Stig' Ben Collins was second fastest in class as the two teams square up for their LMS championship finale showdown this afternoon.

Tim Mullen headed a CRS Ferrari one-two in the GT2 class, the team apparently having corrected the issue that saw it overcook tyres in the heaters prior to qualifying.

Gianmaria Bruni was third fastest in the AF Corse Ferrari.
