Castroneves fastest in warm-up

Helio Castroneves topped the warm-up times in Cleveland as Marlboro Team Penske continued to lead the way.

His team-mate Gil de Ferran had been fastest for most of the session with Castroneves behind, until a frantic final moments in which the order was turned virtually inside out. Castroneves was elbowed down to the lower part of the top ten before bouncing back with a searing final lap.

However, he will start the race from row five, whereas De Ferran joins Roberto Moreno, only 13th quickest this morning, on the front row.

Castroneves is eager to regain the advantage within the team after a strategic error meant that he lost a near-certain win in Portland last week to De Ferran.

Cristiano da Matta continued his sparkling recent form to go second quickest. He starts from a best ever fifth on the grid.

Alex Tagliani improved to fourth but is back on 18th on the grid, while Kenny Brack completed the top five.

There was more joy for Mercedes with Mauricio Gugelmin, Bryan Herta and Mark Blundell all in the top ten. Juan Montoya was only tenth quickest but best of the Lola runners as the Ganassi squad continues to grapple with its road course set-up.

Christian Fittipaldi stopped after just six laps and was slowest of all.

The race starts at 6pm UK time. Autosport.com will bring you live lap-by-lap updates and a full race report straight afterwards.
