Carlin to operate Midland F1

Trevor Carlin, the owner of UK-based Carlin Motorsport, has confirmed that he will act as team principle for the new Midland Formula 1 venture set to enter the sport in 2006, reports Autosport. The project, funded by the Midland manufacturing conglomerate owner and Russian-Canadian entrepreneur Alex Schnaider, will operate out of the Carlin's HQ, in Aldershot, UK and use chassis designed and built by Italian racecar maker Dallara Automobili in Varano Melegari

"I've got to start building a team now to be ready to run in testing from the middle of next year," said Carlin. "Mr Schnaider is great and very passionate about the sport and the business will be run very efficiently. I'll spend the money as if it's my own and we'll cut out the excess that's been in F1 for the past ten years."

Carlin's AMT distribution company is the official UK Dallara parts supplier to the British Formula 3 Championship and boasts a long and successful relationship with the Italian firm. "They [Dallara] can build a nice, compact, effective, F1 car. You're not going to have a Ferrari-beater straight away, but it's be good if we can nudge the top 10 within a year."

Carlin Motorsport will continue to operate entries in the World Series by Renault, British F3 and British Formula BMW Championships in 2005 alongside the Midland programme.
