Cabarrus: 'The Center of American Motorsports'

The board of Cabarrus County in the US state of North Carolina, which includes Lowe's Motor Speedway, has launched a new community logo and tagline reading, 'The Center of American Motorsports'. The move pits the community against nearby Iredell County, where several NASCAR teams are based in Mooresville, which has touted itself as 'Race City USA' since 1994. "The new logo reflects the importance of the motorsport industry to our local economy," said board chairman Robert Freeman

Cabarrus: 'The Center of American Motorsports'

"By partnering with Lowe's Motor Speedway, Cabarrus County recognizes the huge concentration of motorsport businesses and jobs in our area. We're extremely proud of the new look as it is a true representation of the pride, respect and appreciation Cabarrus County has for being the centre of American motorsport."

Cabarrus County manager John Day added: "We're fortunate to have an increasingly diversified economy. In addition to manufacturing, the commercial and tourism sectors are rapidly emerging. One of the most significant industries, however, is motorsport, which represents the single largest cluster of businesses in the county."

Lowe's executive VP Doug Stafford commented: "Cabarrus County and its municipalities are truly the engine inside the motorsport industry. This community is blessed with a high-quality workforce that contributes to the continued success this industry enjoys. Currently, more than 90 percent of [NASCAR] racing teams are headquartered within 50 miles of the speedway."

A recent study indicated that, in addition, the 2003 UAW-GM Quality 500 NASCAR Winston Cup night race at Lowe's generated more than $106m for the community, up from less than $86m in 1999.
