British Club Driver: Sarah Moore
Sarah Moore has picked up the first trophy on offer at this evening's AUTOSPORT Awards in London after claiming the Club Driver of the Year award
Autosport Awards
The Autosport Awards are a series of awards presented by motor racing magazine Autosport to drivers that have achieved significant milestones each season. Some of the presentations are selected by the general public via a reader's poll.
"I think it was just that I got the practice [this year]," said Moore, who accepted her award from eight-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen and triple world touring car champion Andy Priaulx.
"I always used to back out of things, but I've been taking more and more gambles this year, and it's paid off."
Moore fought off competition from Tim Bridgman, James Calado, James Cole, Phil Glew and Dean Smith to take the award. She came to the fore in this season's Ginetta Junior championship, employing remarkable consistency to claim the title ahead of Jake Cook.
The teenager's title success came after a handful of races in 2007 and a first full season in 2008, when she finished 17th overall. Her intention was to emulate her brother Nigel, who won the championship two years ago, also aged 15.
By claiming her maiden victory at Thruxton in April, Moore became the first female driver ever to win a race at a BTCC round. Further wins at Donington Park, Silverstone and Rockingham subsequently carried the Tockwith Motorsport driver to the championship spoils.
