Bright takes pole on Lights debut
Australian rising star Jason Bright made a spectacular Indy Lights series debut by qualifying on pole in the first session at Long Beach
New Zealand's Scott Dixon makes it an all-Antipodean front row at present, lining up second fastest.
Title favourite Jonny Kane was third in the lead Team KOOL Green car, inheriting the place after PacWest's Tony Renna had his time disallowed for a technical infringement on the rear wing.
'The series officials agree that we were not intentionally doing anything illegal to improve performance but at the same time the car did not meet the guidelines set out in the rule book,' said team manager Ziggy Harcus.
Soheil Ayari, who is combining a Lights programme with top team Brian Stewart Racing and a Formula 3000 drive in Europe with Martello/Coloni, was only 17th quickest on his US debut.
