Brands A1 GP date change

Organisers of the new A1 Grand Prix series have decided to shift the date of its inaugural round at Brands Hatch back a week from September 18 to September 25 because of complaints from British racing fans

Brands A1 GP date change

The announcement that the British circuit would host the category's first ever round attracted a huge amount of interest - but A1 Grand Prix was besieged by fans complaining that the date clashed with other commitments on that date.

A1 Grand Prix President, Sheikh Maktoum, said: "We had an amazing reaction from the UK fans to the announcement that the first event was being held in the UK. They confirmed our beliefs they are one of the most patriotic group of fans in motorsport.

"Many of the fans had already purchased tickets for other events on that date, so were disappointed they were not going to be able to attend our event. We have now made it possible for them to be with us at Brands Hatch."

Jonathan Palmer, Chief Executive of Brands Hatch owner MotorSport Vision, added: "We are obviously all concerned to provide both spectators and television audiences with the best opportunity to watch the major events on the calendar, and I think we've now got the best overall balance."
