Bourdais wins in Montreal, rivals fail

Sebastien Bourdais scored his sixth win of the season and laid one hand on his third consecutive Champ Car title, as his only rivals for the crown failed to finish

The Newman/Haas driver took the lead when AJ Allmendinger suffered a mechanical failure, possibly a broken half-shaft in his Forsythe Championship Racing machine,
and thereafter the Frenchman always seemed to have the edge as he was pursued by the second Forsythe car of Paul Tracy.

Justin Wilson of RuSPORT was charging back through the field after entering a closed pit and being sent to the back of the pack, but passing Jan Heylen's Dale Coyne Racing entry for fifth place into Turn 12 the Briton skated wide and hit the unofficially dubbed champion's wall at the start of the pit straight.

That same wall also claimed local Quebec hero Andrew Ranger of Conquest Racing, and rather more significantly in terms of race pace, Oriol Servia of PKV Racing, who was running fourth at the time.

Heated battles between the CTE Racing-HVM team and Team Australia, resulted in Nelson Philippe and Dan Clarke heading a CTE 3-4 finish, the Briton also stealing back some points in the Rookie points race by beating Will Power.

Alex Tagliani made a few more errors as he sought to recover from a lap one spin, eventually finishing seventh, behind Nicky Pastorelli who drove a fine race for Rocketsports Racing.

Charles Zwolsman (Conquest), Heylen and Mario Dominguez (Dale Coyne) rounded out the top 10.
