Blundell fastest in warm-up
Mark Blundell set the pace during Sunday's warm up for round 10 of the CART FedEx World Series. On a rapidly drying track, the PacWest driver set his fastest time as he took the chequered flag at the end of the 30 minute session
Overnight rain and heavy clouds meant that all drivers started the session on wets, but the streets of Toronto dry very quickly, and within 10 minutes it was dry enough for slicks.
Pole sitter Helio Castroneves said: "By the end it was pretty much dry. I decided to go for one lap, but I was still braking too early."
Dario Franchitti, whose car was quite heavily damaged in his qualifying crash, headed the times for most of the session. His Team Green crew repaired his favoured race chassis overnight. "When it's wet the track is very tricky. The concrete sections are very slick, and you just understeer straight across them. But it does dry very quickly."
Team Rahal's Max Papis added: "If the race starts in the damp then for sure full dry settings are the way to go."
The local airport is still forecasting thunderstorms for the race, and the winner may well be the driver who takes the biggest gamble on the conditions.
