Beijing Guoan clinch Superleague title

Late-race technical problems denied Liverpool's Adrian Valles a deserved win at Jerez and handed the inaugural Superleague Formula title to Beijing Guoan

Valles led from pole and was over 10 seconds ahead when his car started to slow with a fuel pressure issue. Coming on to the final lap he was swamped by the chasing pack, led by the AC Milan car of Robert Doornbos, who duly claimed victory while Valles finally limped home eighth.

This became seventh when second-placed finisher Antonio Pizzonia was hit with a 30-second penalty for a pit stop infringement in the Corinthians car.

Pizzonia's penalty promoted Tristan Gommendy and Porto into second, but more importantly, took Beijing Guoan's Davide Rigon into ninth, which was enough to clinch the title.

Duncan Tappy bagged third for Tottenham, while another Briton, Craig Dolby, set the fastest lap of the race on his way to fourth for Anderlecht.
