Austria, Canada to Race at Brands
Austria and Canada will be two last-minute entries for A1 Grand Prix's maiden race at Brands Hatch this weekend
The pair have been testing today at Silverstone in a specially organised test for teams who did not make the series' maiden event at Silverstone last month.
Former Formula One World Champions Niki Lauda and Keke Rosberg have joined forces for the Austrian franchise, as revealed by Autosport magazine last week. Niki's son and GP2 racer Mathias Lauda will drive the car.
This will bring the number of ex-World Champions involved in the self-proclaimed World Cup of Motorsport to five, joining Alan Jones, Emerson Fittipaldi and John Surtees.
The Canadian entry had already been announced but will be run by a different franchise holder. Formula Renault UK racer Sean McIntosh is testing at Silverstone and will race this weekend.
An announcement confirming the entries is expected later today.
In addition, two further teams could yet be on the grid this weekend with Italy and Japan being prepared. The Italian entry is set to be run by 3000 Pro Series squad, Team Ghinzani.
Former FIA GT champion Matteo Bobbi, Minardi's third driver Enrico Toccacelo and GP2 racer Gianmaria Bruni are in line for the drive.
Carlin Motorsport are in-line to run the Japanese entry.
