Andretti: Toronto winner Q&A

Michael Andretti's win in Toronto made him only the second driver -- alongside Gil de Ferran -- to win more than one race this year. It was also his 40th career win, and puts him right in contention as a title favourite in one of the championship's closest seasons. Andy Hallbery got the low down:

Thank god! It's been so long since we won on a road course. Last time was '96 I think. That felt really good. It goes to show we are finally making some headway on our set-ups on the road course and we're understanding the Lola a bit better. The car was dynamite today, especially later on in the runs. When the other guys's tyres were starting to go away a little bit, ours stayed consistent.

In the last five laps I wanted to show Adrian (Fernandez) that he couldn't catch me so I put in a pretty quick one just to show that it wasn't going to happen for him! But it's so nice when you can do that , when you have a car like we had. It was just so good.

A lot of the other drivers were tired after the race but I wasn't because the car was doing everything I wanted it to do. I didn't even have to fight it so physically it was an easy race. That tells you I had a good race car.

No, because I had my own excitement! I didn't know what was going on behind me but when I got to Turn 3 I was third. Helio went in... Well, he was Helio! He got in hard... But it wasn't his fault. It was like ice when we got down there on the first lap. When I got there I braked fairly early and Helio was all out of shape and obviously the other guys felt the same thing.

They must have got into each other... But when I came round next time I thought "Dario and Juan out... That's not bad!"

I guess that's old age! A few years ago I wouldn't have done that and I might have had a go. A couple of times I had a go and I figured, here we go.... Then... "woah"... I'm not going to do it . Yet I probably would have done those moves a couple of years ago. I just tried to have some patience and it paid off, so it definitely has to be a notch up for experience.

Hopefully we're finished with all that parity and we can now continue our winning run. It's so competitive out there, every race, who knows what's going to happen next week? There's no predictions. Any other series you can almost predict what's going to happen, but not in this one.

"We're what, 12 wins out now? It's gettable before I retire. It's going to be one of my drives to keep going for sure, to go after, what's his name... Dad's record. That would be incredible..

It's been so long, and we've been close. I'm just hoping that - and there's such a way to go yet that - I just hope we continue our job and don't get too wrapped up in it.

Hopefully when we wake up we'll be first!
