A1GP targets race in Brazil
A1GP organisers are hoping to hold the series' first race in South America after the president of Brazil pledged his support for his country to host a round
Luis Inacio Lula da Silva and the Brazilian minister of sport, Orlando Silva, met with A1GP ambassador and Team Brazil seatholder Emerson Fittipaldi last week and declared their interest in staging a race in the country.
"It's invaluable to have the support of president Lula and the government," said Fittipaldi.
"We are working hard at Team Brazil to raise the profile and awareness of our national team and it's a goal of ours to have a race in Brazil in the not too distant future."
A1GP chairman Tony Teixeira is also in support of plans to take the championship to South America.
"We've always wanted to take A1GP to South America and Brazil would be our chosen location given its heritage and amazing drivers like Emerson," he said.
"The support the series gets from the Brazilian fans is fantastic, but to now also have the support of the Brazilian government is a big step forward in bringing a race to the region."
