2003 aero test postponed
CART's first planned test of its 2003 aerodynamic rules, originally scheduled for September 23 at the Milwaukee mile, has been postponed due to a shortage of 2003-spec Cosworth engine components
The test was intended as an opportunity to assess the revised aero configurations CART hopes will increase the quality of wheel-to-wheel racing on oval race tracks, with the teams running a detuned version of this year's Cosworth engine to mimic the performance of next year's V8.
However, a batch of engine components that didn't match Cosworth's performance criteria meant the company was unable to supply the engines as it had intended.
"It is unfortunate that we cannot conduct the test as planned next week, although we give our complete support to Cosworth and their decision to give us only their best engines," said CART Vice President of Racing Operations John Lopes. "We appreciate Cosworth's commitment to quality and CART will continue to work with the company to schedule a test that will give us the best opportunity to produce a highly competitive and entertaining racing package next season."
No new date has been announced for test but CART says it will be rescheduled soon.
