Q & A with Alex Premat

Q. Nice job today

Alex Premat: Nice, but not really nice!

Q. Yeah, I know you want to be on pole, but third is not too bad.

Premat: Yeah, for sure. I am happy with this qualifying because I did a good time, although I'm not so happy that the gap to Nico is really big! He was nine tenths quicker, and that's not so good, but on my first and second laps I made some mistakes so I think I should have been able to fight with Speed for second place. So one or two mistakes, and I was also in traffic, but still I think this is good because since Magny Cours I have been very nice, very confident, and I am doing okay in the races. I can't say that I am not so happy because it's always nice to do good, and I am confident for tomorrow.

Q. It's a surprising gap - behind you everyone is quite close, but Nico's a long way ahead today. Was it just the traffic?

Premat: Yeah, it's just the traffic, and also for the best sectors of me and Nico the gap was really close - I think four or five tenths maximum. But one or two mistakes in the first lap and I lost one or two tenths depending on the corner or the guy in front of me. But for sure the gap is really big! At the beginning of the session every driver was out together, and after we came back there was still a lot of traffic, but it's same thing for every driver, even Nico.

Q. Have you done much racing in the wet?

Premat: Yeah, in Formula Three last year.

Q. Are you okay in the wet?

Premat: (Waves hand up and down) Pfft - it depends! I remember I had a big problem with my disc caliper, and then I had a shit race because it was raining! I drove only one time at Paul Ricard [in GP2] in the wet, and that was really hard!

Q. So you probably want to keep the rain away then!

Premat: Yeah, yeah - of course!
