Paffett steps up with Brand

Reigning German Formula 3 champion Gary Paffett will step up to the International Formula 3000 Championship this year with the new Brand Motorsport team, according to this week's AUTOSPORT magazine

The Briton, who is also seeking a Formula 1 test role, is likely to be joined in the team by Champ Car refugee and reigning ASCAR champion Nicolas Minassian, who is set to make a return to the category.

"The team is very good, is getting very prepared and is in the mood to go out and win," said Paffett. "I believe that we can run at the front from the beginning."

Frenchman Minassian has yet to complete his deal with Brand, but he should be part of its Champ Car campaign later this year when it takes part in the race at Germany's Eurospeedway Lausitz.

Brand boss Martin Kendrick said: "Gary is hungry to carry on winning after his success last year and Nicolas has to be a contender on his return to F3000."
