Kid Jensen confident for F3000 opener
KJR, the top rookie team of the 1999 Formula 3000 series is aiming high for the first race of 2000, next weekend at Imola
Bas Leinders, the team's number one driver, posted several top-five times at the recent Imola test session, and is hopeful of a good result.
"I am looking forward to racing at Imola this weekend," the Belgian driver said.
"We had a good two day test there in the middle of March. I have worked very hard with the team over the winter and I am confident we are going to do well."
However, the 24-year-old is playing down thoughts of immediate spectacular results with his new team.
"The objective for the first race is to qualify in the top ten," he insisted, "and finish in the points.
"From there we want to keep improving our performances race after race, to ensure we have successful season."
Second driver Andrea Piccini had a disappointing 1999 season, after being drafted into the team at short notice.
The 21-year-old Italian is keen to make amends, however, by achieving a good result at Imola.
However, he recognises that F3000 is more competitive than ever, and that it will be a hard fight to the top.
"I like the Imola circuit, so I think we can achieve a good result there, but it is not going to be easy as there are a lot of good drivers to compete with and the weather conditions are currently difficult, with cold temperatures and possibly rain."
