Haberfeld joins Fortec for 2000 season
Mario Haberfeld will spearhead Fortec Motorsport's assault on this year's Formula 3000 Championship
The Brazilian, who won the 1998 British Formula 3 Championship, will partner German Andreas Scheld in 2000.
Haberfeld tested for the team in November, when he set the fastest times on four out of the seven days.
He is hopeful of success this season after being overshadowed by his West Competition team-mate Nick Heidfeld in last year's championship.
The 23-year-old said: "I was very impressed with the team last November, especially at Jerez where I was much quicker than everyone else.
"Obviously I have set my sights on winning the championship although it is too hard to say I will win as there are so many different factors.
"Hopefully, by the end of the season when you add up these points we could win the championship."
Scheld comes to Fortec from the German STW Championship.
Despite a racing accident, which cut short his season, the 23-year-old claims he is looking forward to his new challenge.
"I have a good feeling about joining Fortec, both the car and the team are looking good which fills me with confidence," said Scheld.
'My main aim is to find my feet, learn as much as I can, and hopefully by mid-season start making an impression on the front of the grid."
