Gustav Malja back to GP2 with Rapax in place of Robert Visoiu

Swedish driver Gustav Malja will replace the injured Robert Visoiu at Rapax for the final two rounds of the GP2 season in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi

Gustav Malja back to GP2 with Rapax in place of Robert Visoiu

Malja, who picked up two podium finishes on his way to ninth in the Formula Renault 3.5 championship with Strakka Racing, already has experience in GP2.

The 20-year-old stepped in for an ill Rene Binder at Spa-Francorchamps for Italian outfit Trident, where he picked up a point on his debut.

He will now partner Sergey Sirotkin for the final two rounds in place of Visoiu - who announced on Twitter he will miss the rest of the season due to an unspecified injury on Monday morning.

"I'm massively excited about this opportunity to complete the remainder of the GP2 season with Rapax," said Malja.

"I did get a taste for the GP2 car at Spa earlier this year, which will hopefully make things a little bit easier and help me get down to work right from the first session.

"I have never been to Bahrain or Abu Dhabi before, but they are now two established tracks on the single-seater calendar and racing there will be a great experience.

"This is a huge thing and I can't wait to get started."

Malja's return to the grid is the second change to the GP2 driver line-up for the final rounds announced so far, following FR3.5 champion Oliver Rowland's deal with Status GP.
