F3000 breaks out of Europe for 2001

Next year's championship was rubber-stamped by the FIA World Council, world motorsport's decision-making body, in Seville today (Wednesday). Aside from the ground-breaking South American foray, the other extra race will be the last round of the championship and is to be held at Monza.

As usual, all rounds of the championship will be support races to the Formula 1 World Championship and will take place on the Saturday of Grand Prix weekends.

The addition of the Brazilian and Italian races means that the calendar has been extended from 10 races to 12, but the schedule still includes the traditional month off for the F3000 teams in June while the F1 circus heads to Montreal.

March 31 BRAZIL (Interlagos)
April 14 SAN MARINO (Imola)
April 28 SPAIN (Barcelona)
May 12 AUSTRIA (A1-Ring)

July 14 GREAT BRITAIN (Silverstone)
